Red Hill Band Presents Robert “Doc” Warner Award to Tom Wetzel

Earlier this year the officers and band members of Red Hill Band established the Robert “Doc” Warner Award. Its purpose is to commemorate the life of “Doc” Warner and recognize the contributions he continually gave to family, friends, community and the Red Hill Band. The award recognizes a current band member who exhibits those same traits which made “Doc” stand out in the community and as a member of the band for 60 years.

Nominations were solicited through July with a vote between the top 3 nominees occurring in August. Tom Wetzel, a member of the band for 27 years, was selected. Wetzel plays in the tuba section and has served as secretary, trustee, assistant librarian, and chairman of the 125th anniversary committee. He also has given numerous presentations about the Red Hill Band and it’s history. Wetzel was presented with a framed certificate and a gold star to wear on his uniform designating him as a Robert “Doc” Warner Award recipient.

Red Hill Band has concluded its 2026 summer season. RHB is always accepting new members. Anyone may sit in on band rehearsals once they start up again in March. Now is the time to schedule the band for next summer’s festival, carnial, or picnic. The band is a 501 C-3 corporation and would greatly appreciate your support. When the Red Hill Band formed in 1900, our intent was to provide enjoyable entertainment to families in our community. Since then our community has experienced many changes, but our intent has remained unchanged. With about 15 performances each summer, the Red Hill Band entertains crowds of all ages throughout the Montgomery County area. Our artistic mission is to continue the tradition of band concerts in parks and at civic and social events, playing marches, show tunes and other traditional concert band music.
