New Goshenhoppen Band Shell, a Hidden Treasure in the UP Valley

Summer Rehearsal Location – New Goshenhoppen Band Shell, a Hidden Treasure in the UP Valley

Tucked away in East Greenville sits one of the Upper Perkiomen Valley’s most charming musical landmarks — the New Goshenhoppen Park band shell, summer home of the Red Hill Band.

For generations, the band shell has echoed with marches, Broadway favorites, patriotic classics, and the unmistakable sound of community music. The Red Hill Band, founded in 1900, has rehearsed and performed in many places throughout its long history, but the New Goshenhoppen Park setting has become one of its most beloved homes.

What makes the band shell especially unique is its design: it’s modeled after the famous band shell at Willow Grove Park where legendary bandmaster John Philip Sousa once performed. Painted in classic white with blue and red trim, it feels like a step back into the golden age of community bands.

On warm summer evenings, as music drifts through the trees and neighbors gather with lawn chairs and picnic blankets, the space becomes more than just a rehearsal site — it becomes a reminder of the traditions that continue to bring the UP Valley together.

The next time you pass through New Goshenhoppen Park, take a moment to appreciate this hidden treasure. Chances are, you just might hear the sound of the Red Hill Band carrying through the summer air.

When the Red Hill Band formed in 1900, our intent was to provide enjoyable entertainment to families in our community. Since then our community has experienced many changes, but our intent has remained unchanged. With about 15 performances each summer, the Red Hill Band entertains crowds of all ages throughout the Montgomery County area. Our artistic mission is to continue the tradition of band concerts in parks and at civic and social events, playing marches, show tunes and other traditional concert band music.
